I'm here because when I get bored and try to websurf, this is a lot better than wandering around aimlessly!
I'm going to Simon Fraser University where I'm majoring in Political Science, minoring in History and concentrating in Middle Eastern and Islamic History (it's a mouthful), and graduating soon. I enjoy following Canadian, US, and Middle Eastern politics the most.
I've been a professional cook for years now, but I've started my first office job through SFU's Co-op program; I'll see how that goes.
I appreciate art that gets to the point: photography, prose, film, and music. I practically only listen to trance and other electronica, but there's a place in my heart for rock music.
I love going out to restaurants, pubs, clubs or anywhere with my friends in my spare time.
Enjoy my page :) - you'll notice I have an opinion on just about everything

Regardless of how distorted this representation is, the fact of the matter is that universal healthcare systems have the right underlying idea for healthcare distribution, whereas user-pay systems have it wrong. Healthcare is a right for everyone. It is not something that can be distributed properly by the market!
I would hate to live in a country where someone's level of medical care is determined by the size of their pocketbook and not the level of their medical need.
I've never had a problem with Canadian healthcare and I've used it often; I've seen 4 members of my family battle cancer through it, and never - not once - did we EVER think about money. Never. We all got the same care as the wealthiest CEO or the poorest street bum. That's how healthcare distribution should be. Equal.

I was stopped behind a car today. It was a red convertible. It had a personalized license plate. It read:
"K DONOR"
...As in "Kidney Donor"
Someone was advertising the fact they gave up one of their kidneys ON THE BACK OF THEIR GODDAMN CAR?!?
WTF?!

I've seen worse. Teen pregnancy is a pretty important issue on it's own. It was the media hype around the death of Anna Nicole Smith that got me. I think she was the least deserving person to ever have the media pay attention to their death. A month! A MONTH of coverage as the War in Iraq raged and thousands more died in Darfur. To say that teen pregnancy is a non-issue that doesn't deserve to be addressed... well that's just a bit of a stretch. Again, I've seen American media do far, far worse...
